Cover Girl Culture

This evening I am going with one of my best girlfriends to see a new documentary titled "Cover Girl Culture."

The documentary asks (and attempts to answer) questions such as: Who sets today’s standards for beauty, and how are these standards affecting individuals and society? Who is responsible? Are there ways this can be changed? If so, who can/will change it?

How this all began ...

Summer of 2009, I was afforded the unique opportunity to live in Ghana for two months. While in Ghana, I taught at a primary school and mentored at the nation's prison for young girls. During my time in Ghana, I admired how being in the majority felt for a change - all advertisements, billboards, and commericials were catered to people who looked like me - people of color.
